Brno Live: Alexandra Polarczyk – The Voice of Hildegard von Bingen/Choral (session 56 sec.)

Entrance to the event is included in the regular ticket.

Within the unique spaces of the water reservoirs, there will be heard Medieval chants of Hildegard of Bingen, which Alexandra Polarczyk interprets in her own way. The interpretation differs in that the medieval abbess's chorales are not sung strictly in a period style, but intuitively, and for accompaniment, she chooses non-traditional instruments: organ, dulcimer, zither, piano, Indian shruti box harmonium, Turkish saz lute, and Tibetan bowl.
Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179) was a German Benedictine abbess, mystic, writer, musician, and natural healer. From childhood, she had visions, which she later recorded and illustrated in her writings. She was very influential in her time – she travelled, corresponded with the Pope, led a monastery, wrote theological treatises, composed sacred music, and also dedicated herself to medicine and medicinal plants. In 2012, she was declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Benedict XVI – a distinction very few women have received.

For entry to the concert, please purchase a self-guided ticket (10:00 AM – 6:00 PM).
